The King in Yellow
foundThe King in Yellow
The complete book of the play — Robert W. Chambers' The King in Yellow, the fictional drama whose second act drives its readers mad. Recovered from Horselover's office at Box 13 HQ (Session 3); the page found on the roof had been torn from it. Taken by Cory/Elias.
The Play, Across the Case
The King in Yellow is the corrupting agent running through the McAllistor case:
- The Red Book — the 1951 English translation, found in Michelle Vanatz's apartment; Yellow Sign on the cover. "Reading the play is enough to open the victim to the ministrations of the King in Yellow."
- The Carcosa Song — Abigail Wright was scoring the play.
- Thomas Manuel kept pages from a play.
- The rooftop page and the impossible smoking room's Carcosa star-field.
The Sign Is the Yellow Sign
The Red Book (Session 5) bears **the same mark** as the airshaft napkin — confirming the recurring symbol (Rooftop Symbol, the paper dragon) is **the Yellow Sign.** Reading the play **opens** a person to the King in Yellow; opened, the tenants "move upstairs" into the night floors.
