The Derpy Dog
unknownThe Derpy Dog
A giant, dopey-looking dog loose in the McAllistor Building (Session 5). It made a whiny sound, wandered into an apartment, and later reappeared around a corner to stare blankly at Gus — then vanished into a closet that proved empty when Gus put a flashlight on it.
An Apparition in a Harmless Shape
It appears and vanishes like the building's other night-floors figures (Man with the Briefcase, Mr. Wild, Mr. Ostanovic) — but wearing the most disarming form available: a big, brainless dog. It keeps presenting itself to **Gus** specifically.
Cast in the Play
**"THE DOG"** is a listed character in The Smoking Lounge Play (Session 5), present in the fourth-floor smoking lounge and given the stage direction *(THE DOG BARKS.)*. The apparition following Gus is a **cast member of the night-floors script.**
Open Questions
- Why a dog, and why Gus? Compare Mr. M's Climaxtus (the Chihuahua that reaches through screens) — same "a dog where there shouldn't be one" motif, inverted in size.
- Is it leading them somewhere (it vanished into a closet — a small dark space, like the night-floors thresholds), or just watching?
