Hygromanteia

The Latin grimoire from The Decraig Box (Session 6). Elias made an Occult success to identify it — recalling what is known about the book. He has not read or studied it.

Study Cost (if read — not yet done)
Reading time **several hours**; full study **weeks**. Studying it grants **+2% Occult** but inflicts **Corruption +1** — a price no one has paid yet, and time the night floors do not give cheaply (David: *the longer you stay, the harder it is to leave*).

What It Is

A 15th-century grimoire by an unknown author the text calls "Solomon." Occult histories hint it may have been written by a French noble, Augustus Chastaigne, or his son, Gabriel Castaigne; true provenance unknown. It contains the seals of 72 demons, identical to those in the Ars Goetia.

Castaigne — the King in Yellow Surname
**Castaigne** is the family from Robert W. Chambers' *The King in Yellow* ("The Repairer of Reputations" — Hildred Castaigne). Attributing this grimoire to a **Castaigne** stitches the **Goetic** apparatus of this case directly into the **Yellow Sign / Carcosa** thread that runs through everything else. And "**The Repairer of Reputations**" rhymes hard with **David**, the man who "came to **repair** the cable."
The 72 Seals = This Case's Demons
The **72 Ars Goetia seals** are the source of the demons already surfacing: **Purson** (the parchment seal) and **Seere** (the WW2 radio transmission). The book in the box is the **catalog** the night floors have been quoting from.

The Solomon Passage

"Sed Rehoboam patri Salomoni dixit, 'O pater, in qualibus operibus potestas operum sedet?' Et Salomon illi dixit, 'In herbis et in verbis et in saxis sedet omnis ars et gratia et potestas cognoscentium.'"

Rehoboam asks his father Solomon: "Father, in what works does the power of works reside?" Solomon answers: "In herbs and in words and in stones resides all the art and grace and power of those who know."

Herbs, Words, Stones — the Night Floors' Three Vectors
The grimoire **states the method the whole case runs on**: - **Herbs** → the **Melonia pods** in The Decraig Box (the sedative that makes the sleepers). - **Words** → the **self-writing scripts**, the play, the **illegible signs**, the whispered line, David's **typewriter**, the one repeated book. - **Stones** → the **Yellow Sign** carved in concrete on the Dallas roof and taped in the airshaft.

Drug, text, and carved sign aren't three mysteries — they're the three named instruments of one working. The crew is standing inside the ritual described on the page in their hands.
